Portrait of Oscar Teleki

Introduction

Hi, I'm Oscar Teleki.

I am the writer and filmmaker behind House of History. I started the channel in 2018 as a passion project, and over time it grew into an independent documentary channel built around research, writing, and manual animation.

What first drew me to this work was the simple fact that history never felt dry to me. It felt alive, full of remarkable events, people, and turning points. House of History became the place where my interest in history and politics came together.

Background

A working life shaped by study, reading, and curiosity.

I studied History and International Relations at Leiden University, where I completed two degrees. But the deeper foundation of the channel has always been years of reading, note-taking, writing, and trying to understand how events unfold and why they matter.

Over time, that became less of an interest on the side and more of the structure of my everyday life.

Writing

The films begin long before the animation.

Although House of History is often recognized for its maps, movement, and battle sequences, each film usually begins with reading, outlining, writing, and revision.

A large part of the work lies in taking dense historical material and shaping it into something coherent enough to narrate and clear enough to visualize. Writing is central to that process. So is interpretation, judgment, and deciding what deserves emphasis and what can be left aside.

Why this work

Why House of History exists.

What matters most in this work is trying to present history with enough clarity, structure, and care that people genuinely want to spend time with it.

House of History began as a passion project, but it grew into something much larger. It became the place where my interest in history, politics, writing, and visual storytelling could all meet, and that is still what drives the work now.
